I like the evening public prayer,

The church up by the river side,

The dusk , the muddy bluish air,

The village in the eventide.

Люблю вечернее моленье

У белой церкви над рекой,

Передзакатное селенье

И сумрак мутно-голубой.

Resigning to the tender brows,

Admiring the charm of all

I throw a bunch of snow-white flowers

Into the yard, across the wall

Покорный ласковому взгляду,

Любуюсь тайной красоты,

И за церковную ограду

Бросаю белые цветы.

And then the hazy screen will fall and

The bridegroom will step down the shrine.

And from the forest border onward

The wedding day will break and shine.

Падет туманная завеса.

Жених сойдет из алтаря.

И от вершин зубчатых леса

Забрежжит брачная заря.
